I was really disappointed that mechanically I couldn’t even get this car home. I rented it as a larger car with air conditioning to drive early the next morning to pick my mum up at the airport at sunrise and go to Noosa, and firstly the clutch and acceleration were really blending into each other, and I stopped nearby and my partner drove it and said it’s like his really old car in France, and you need to almost have the clutch off completely to even start to accelerate, So I did that, and was happy it was driving well on the freeway, then when I got close to home, I went around a round about, and had to go up a hill ( just a regular hill in ocean shores), and when I got to second gear, the car stopped, and I pressed the clutch right down, tried taking the taking the clutch right off, and accelerating, and tried a hand break start, and even turning the car on and off and each time I just kept rolling down the hill backwards, no matter how much I pressed the acceleration it couldn’t go up the hill and would just roll back. So my partner came back, and he was able to drive it, It was really annoying as I have 20 years experience driving manual, and had to drive my Mazda mx5 to Noosa, ( which is a 2 seater and I rented the Yaris because the aircon was broken in May car, and yet to be fixed because of the floods )- so a whole trip in the heat with no aircon and my boot barely fits a small hand luggage suitcase, So it was really annoying to navigate and a very expensive mistake to rent this car. My partner ended up driving it around town so the money wasn’t completely wasted, But this is a warning that you may have the same problem. I don’t think it’s generally because of the cars age as my Mazda is much older, and I’ve driven numerous manual cars and never even had the slightest problem with navigating the gears. It’s clearly a mechanical problem that needs to be fixed, and annoying a car with this problem is being rented out I didn’t bother contacting the owner, as it was I got to bed late working out what to do with the car situation, and signing my partner up to drive the Yaris, so my partner could drive the Yaris, and I knew the owner couldnt give me any tips he couldn’t, and didnt want to waste my time that night or on my holiday in Noosa messing around with this and getting annoyed. The car itself looked new and great, was super clean and had high tech technology, just a shame it’s not drivable!
Great car! A super star on CND!
Thanks so much Graham! Really appreciate your feedback and for you being such a great borrower.
