When you borrow a car through Car Next Door, all of the carbon emissions from your driving are offset through Greenfleet‘s native reforestation projects around Australia.
Greenfleet is an environmental not-for-profit organisation, with a mission to protect our climate by restoring our forests. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted more than 8.5 million native trees across Australia – creating 400 biodiverse, permanent forests.
Greenfleet is Australia’s most trusted source of biodiverse carbon offsets, servicing hundreds of organisations from universities to councils and from leadings brands to start-ups, and is supported by thousands of individual Australians.
We established Car Next Door to reduce the amount of carbon going into the atmosphere. Sharing existing cars reduces the number of automobiles that need to be manufactured – and we know the embodied emissions created during the manufacturing process typically match or even exceed exhaust pipe emissions over a car’s lifetime.
Research also tells us that car sharing encourages both borrowers and lenders to use cars less often, as they are more aware of the cost of driving. By offsetting our borrowers’ emissions, we are making sure that the remaining emissions that can’t be avoided are offset by credible, longterm emissions reduction projects that also help restore native forests and biodiversity in Australia.
