About Us

Car Next Door is the fastest-growing car sharing network in Australia. We’re on a mission to fundamentally change the way people think about transport and to free the planet from the ‘one car, per person’ mentality. Since 2012, we have successfully grown to having around 1,500 cars on our platform and have had over 150,000 bookings.

About the role

We are looking to attract an experienced and self-motivated Front End developer, to join a highly experienced development team as we scale up. The role would suit someone who wants to play a key part in the development team, working on exciting projects in one of Australia's most promising startups. You will help drive the technology direction of the company, supported by our well-rounded team as we embark on a fast-paced programme of development to help the business expand throughout Australia and beyond.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Joining us as we embark on a pretty big overhaul of our web front-end (Rails 5.1, Tailwind CSS and Stimulus JS) to improve UX, consolidate the JS and CSS, and apply a branding update
  • Working with our designer and Growth Team, you’ll be building interactive mockups, testing, iterating, and building the customer-facing UI for our web platform and hybrid apps
  • Improving the UX of our apps (Angular 5 & Ionic 3) and making them more visually appealing
  • Following the UX overhaul, you’ll take part in an exciting roadmap of new features that extends well into the future

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • 2+ years' commercial experience writing HTML, Javascript and CSS
  • A focus on detail pushing wireframes and mockups through to production
  • A familiarity with UI principles and patterns
  • An agile mindset and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements
  • Pride in your work and a desire to contribute to a small team of dedicated and talented people
  • An understanding of what we’re doing (and why) and a passion to get involved

It would be a bonus if you had:

  • A Computer science, design or equivalent degree
  • An interest in visual design
  • Experience with user testing and A/B testing

This is a full-time remote position with a Sydney-friendly timezone (There must be a minimum of 4hrs crossover with Australian standard business hours). Head-office is in Sydney with the development team currently spread across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Brisbane. The offer will include a salary, and potential equity for the right person.
