Unpleasant man. Unpleasant vehicle. Unpleasant experience. He wants to sarcastically show himself to be a complete arrogant jerk by carrying on about my name being KAREN. And therefore my nature being similar to the meme for a Karen. I'd like to point out that he hired me a Dodge. And it was DODGY. Please tell this immature man to grow up, stop name-calling, apologise for inconveniencing people at their time and expense, and fix his vehicle so as not to give somebody else such an unpleasant experience. He thinks he can bully people to accept financial liability for the pre-existing damage to his vehicle. DO NOT HIRE THIS CAR. IT IS DAMAGED AND THE OWNER TRIES TO GET YOU TO REPAIR AT YOUR TIME AND EXPENSE. THEN MAKES NOISES ABOUT MAKING DODGY INSURANCE CLAIMS AT YOUR EXPENSE. LEAVES NASTY COMMENTS ABOUT YOU WHEN YOU TRY IN GOOD FAITH TO DO THE RIGHT THING. DO NOT TRUST THIS PERSON. Knowingly hired out the van with a damaged window mechanism. The car front passenger side window fell down immediately when I accessed the lock box and it would not go back up. My friend is a mechanic and spent half an hour trying to fix the broken window. The mechanism is badly broken, no buttons on them. Some missing, some scattered on the floor. (The owner subsequently told me that's why there's a pair of scissors in the drivers side pocket-- I'm supposed to fix his window with a pair of scissors that he left behind?? What ??) Upon returning the car, I phoned the owner to ask for instructions upon how to secure the window. He told me he was out for dinner and that it was MY problem! What? It's his car and he should not have hired it out when it was damaged. The feedback he left was appalling. My experience was incredibly stressful, I was incredibly upset, and this comment puts salt in the wound. He saying that I was demanding a discount is infuriating; he charged me for usage I never enjoyed, and then tried to angle it so that I would be financially liable for pre-existing damage. I secured the key to the rear window instead of the front but had to leave the window down as it won't wind up. He started ranting on the phone about it being my fault if the car got stolen, and my fault that he wasn't going to be able to rent it out the following day. WAIT A MINUTE! He told me before I even located the car that he knew it was broken and was going to be fixing the problem -- he is trying to blame a his broken car on me. My comment was, 'it's not my fault, don't I won't be paying for it, because in fact I probably should get a refund because I lost 1.5 hours because of your broken vehicle'. I did everything and more to be a responsible car hirer. I spent my own time trying to fix it. I treated the vehicle as if it were my own. He has posted an appalling response on the site that is pure defamation and again hinting that I was responsible for the pre-existing problems with his vehicle. I was polite to the owner the whole time. It was he that acted entitled and arrogant. I personally notified him and spent my own time trying to fix. I hired the vehicle for 3 hours. Being 2.30pm-5.30pm. That is all I needed; more than ample time. I live 250 metres away. I was able to park my own car next to his, as I have a resident permit. I was assuming I'd be able to take his van on a 40 km return trip to pick up a sofa, and then drop the van/pick up my vehicle. Easy. Instead, it took 45 minutes and 2 calls to him/2 calls to carnextdoor.com (including getting his voicemail/being put on hold for ages to car next door. Then to return and have to try and fix a window that was already broken before he hired the car out. My 3 hour trip ended up taking 5 hours -- through no fault of my own. I would NEVER have hired this car if I had known the state it was in. I was left in a stressful situation wherein I had people waiting for me i to collect a sofa and were literally going to abandon it on the side of the road if I wasn't there by 5pm. No time to hire an alternative vehicle ... I had to hope for the best. Sigh... The owner is dodgy. He is clearly (by his reference to insurance, and his reference to water damage) trying to get an insurance claim at my expense. I will not accept any liability. The car was damaged. The window mechanism was broken. He knew it before he rented the car. I spoke to him at length at 7pm so he fully knew that the window was down. If he subsequently left the window down all night in full knowledge that it was raining ... that is his fault. The insurance company won't compensate him for knowingly leaving his window down. No way will I be bullied into accepting liability for the pre-existing damage to his broken vehicle. Demanding I attempt to fix his car with a pair of scissors because he didn't want to disrupt his dinner plans ... OMG. That is crazy. I am not going to stand on the street, take off the interior door panel and attempt to fix an electrical mechanism with a pair of scissors, at 7.30pm when it is dark outside. How unreasonable!
The vehicle was incredibly dirty on the inside and exterior. There was damage to every panel of the vehicle multiple dents and scratches, it had mechanical issues with the electrical windows and the oil light was constantly flashing up on the dash .
